În perioada 25–26 iunie 2026, Institutul de Arheologie Iași al Academiei Române, Filiala Iași organizează workshopul internațional „Funerary and Social Landscapes at the Western Borders of the Eurasian Steppe (5th–3rd Centuries BC)”, un eveniment dedicat cercetării comunităților și peisajelor funerare de la frontiera vestică a stepei eurasiatice în a doua epocă a fierului.
Coordonat de Alexandru Berzovan, Denis Topal și Lavinia Grumeza, workshopul reunește specialiști din România, Republica Moldova, Ucraina şi Statele Unite ale Americii, oferind un cadru de dialog interdisciplinar asupra unor teme precum structurile sociale, practicile funerare, fortificațiile și interacțiunile culturale din spațiul nord-pontic și carpatic.
Programul include o conferință inaugurală susținută de Victor Cojocaru, precum și prezentări care aduc în discuție rezultate recente ale cercetărilor dedicate comunităților getice, scitice și altor populații din zona de contact dintre lumea stepelor și Europa de Sud-Est.
International Workshop in Iași: „Funerary and Social Landscapes at the Western Borders of the Eurasian Steppe (5th–3rd Centuries BC)”
On 25–26 June 2026, the Iași Institute of Archaeology of the Romanian Academy, Iași Branch, hosts the international workshop „Funerary and Social Landscapes at the Western Borders of the Eurasian Steppe (5th–3rd Centuries BC)”, dedicated to the study of funerary landscapes and social dynamics at the western margins of the Eurasian Steppe during the Late Iron Age.
Organized by Alexandru Berzovan, Denis Topal, and Lavinia Grumeza, the workshop brings together scholars from Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and the United States, fostering interdisciplinary discussions on social organization, funerary practices, fortified settlements, and cultural interactions across the Pontic and Carpathian regions.
The programme features a keynote lecture by Victor Cojocaru and a series of presentations highlighting recent archaeological research on Getic, Scythian, and other communities that shaped this dynamic frontier zone.
